iSIM-170 is on its way to the ISS

SATLANTIS core payload iSIM-170 was successfully launched to the ISS on the HTV-9 mission on 20 May 2020 at 17:30 UTC (21 May at 02:30 JST) from Tanegashima Space Center (Japan) via the H-IIB launch vehicle.

For the occasion, SATLANTIS hosted an online live event that included a round table and a real-time connection with Tanegashima Space Center via JAXA’s broadcasting.

Several distinguished guests took part in the round table – titled “NEW SPACE ECONOMY, an anti-cycle Sector for difficult times” -, in particular:

The round table was moderated by our CEO, Juan Tomás Hernani, and focused on some of the new challenges that the Space sector is facing and is going to deal with in the future. The wide range of background of the invited speakers, involving small and big companies from different sides of the industry, resulted in a combined interesting perspective on the topic.

In addition, some of the guests gave insights on the history of SATLANTIS and how the original idea behind iSIM technology, as developed by Prof. Rafael Guzmán at the UFL, was transformed into an entrepreneurship adventure with Cristina Garmendia, Antonio López and Juan Tomás Hernani, and how, in the most recent years, important public and private partners contributed to make SATLANTIS a key player in the Earth Observation field.

The live event was followed by more than 4.000 people worldwide, which remotely gathered to share the enthusiasm of SATLANTIS Team and to witness to an outstanding company milestone.

Through this successful launch, SATLANTIS achieves to put the first submetre resolution camera onboard the i-SEEP platform of the ISS’ Japanese Kibo module and gets closer to its goal of becoming worldwide leader of extremely miniaturized Earth Observation technologies.

In less than five days, the HTV-9 vehicle will perform a rendez-vous manoeuvre with the ISS and the cargo will be transferred into the Kibo module.

It is the first time that a non-Japanese payload is installed on i-SEEP and it was possible thanks to an Agreement signed with JAXA, through its official broker, Space BD Inc.
